I have a fondness for the old 'haunts' of St. Louis. Stories my mother would tell me of when she once worked for the police department in the 60's, made me wonder if I were born 30 years too late. There was a reference to "Beffa's" during episode 2 of Season 3 of the NBC comedy series "Superstore", which takes place in St. Louis. An elderly character 'Myrtle' talks of an affair she once had with who she thought was Ozzie Smith of the St. Louis Cardinals, during the time of the '87 World Series. She then reflects on seeing Al Wiman having a roast beef sandwich at Beffa's. I wanted to know more about this place and found a great article from the Riverfront Times on the now closed, but once popular establishment.
